    How the points add up

The scorer follows the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India rule book, version 2.1.0 (page numbers below are that book's).

All out (lona): the whole other team out, nobody to revive2 extra, all of them come back22, 42 (pp. 4, 6)

Do-or-die raid (third after two empty raids) with no pointsRaider out, 1 to the defenders20, 39 (pp. 4, 6)
Technical point, and each yellow card (2 minutes off)1 to the other team66, 65 (pp. 12-13)

Halves are 20 minutes for men and junior boys and 15 for women, junior girls and sub-juniors (rule 49). Players come back in the order they went out (rule 46). Each team has five substitutions, and players changed at the same stoppage count as one (rule 52).

    Score sheet symbols

Each point is written in the scoring team's running score with a key: / out, Δ bonus, a horizontal line through the two lona points, ○ technical point, X super catch, and a square □ on the first leading point (Technical officials rule 10, p. 48). T in a time out box marks a time out.

Filling the sheet with the scorer

    1. Type both squads with chest numbers and tick the seven who start. Pick the section, and League or Knock out.
    2. For each raid, tap the raider and what happened: bonus, defenders out in the order they went, or raider out. Super catches, all outs and do-or-die raids are worked out for you. When the raider is caught, defenders he touched are not out; mark any who stepped out on their own.
    3. Technical points, time outs, cards, substitutions and half time have their own buttons. Undo takes back the last entry of any kind.
    4. Print the official score sheet, plus the assistant scorer records and the raid-by-raid record if you want them.

Example: in the filled example, Saptarishi Club beat Kesarbaug Mandal 28 to 25 with two all outs and a do-or-die raid that ended in an out.

    Questions

How do you fill a kabaddi score sheet?

Write the teams, the first seven and the reserves at the top. During play the scorer marks each point in the team's running score with its key: a slash for an out, a triangle for a bonus, a line through two numbers for a lona, a circle for a technical point, X for a super catch, and a square on the first leading point. At each half, add the particulars table and get the umpires and referee to sign.

When is a bonus point given in kabaddi?

Only when at least 6 defenders are in the half (players suspended or sent off count). The raider must cross the bonus line before touching anyone or being caught. The bonus stands even if he is then caught, and it does not revive a player (AKFI rule 53).

    What is a do-or-die raid?

The third raid after two empty raids by the same side. If that raider scores nothing and loses nothing, or takes more than 30 seconds, he is out and the defending team gets a point and a revival (AKFI rules 20 and 39). The count starts again after half time.

What is a super catch (super tackle)?

A raider caught, self out or declared out while 3 or fewer defenders are defending (AKFI rule 19). The score sheet records it in its own SC column with an X. The rule book does not state the value; this scorer gives 1 extra point on top of the point for the out. The point for the out revives one player as usual; the extra point revives nobody. A do-or-die raid that ends empty against 3 or fewer defenders is a super catch too, because rule 19 counts a raider out however it happens.

What happens if a kabaddi knockout match is a tie?

Each team names five raiders and raids five times, alternately, with seven players on the mat, no outs or revivals, and the baulk line used as the bonus line. If still level, a toss decides who takes a golden raid; the team that scores the leading point wins. This scorer reads the leading point as more points in that raid, so a bonus followed by a catch (1 each) is level and the other team takes its golden raid (rule 56). In a league match a tie stands and each team gets one league point.

Does this follow Pro Kabaddi rules?

No. It follows the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India rule book version 2.1.0, the rules AKFI publishes for all forms of kabaddi. Pro Kabaddi League sets its own rules for its matches, so some details differ.

Source: AKFI, Rules and Regulations of All Forms of Kabaddi, version 2.1.0. AKFI set up a rules committee in May 2025; no newer rule book has been published. Squads of up to 14 follow AKFI's 2025 championship circulars.
